Scentrified’s interview with Sarah Baker

“It is incredibly difficult to choose just one scent from Sarah Baker. A friend first introduced me to Jungle Jezebel back when niche perfume was still quite new to me. I fell for it instantly, and for a long time I didn’t try anything else from the house. I couldn’t even imagine something equally bold catching my attention. Peach's Revenge later became another huge favorite, but ultimately I chose Prism Head for this article, because I think it deserves a moment in the spotlight.

Prism Head is intoxicating, almost poisonous in a strangely comforting way. Wearing it feels like stepping into a fairy tale that hasn’t been softened for children. You’re out for a long walk, somewhere deep in a Nordic forest. Suddenly, the air changes. The forest turns colder and more alert, almost as if it is watching you. Fog collects around your feet. Something ancient stirs, not nostalgic but geological, like roots gripping stone or moss spreading over old minerals. You hear big, loud footsteps, but can’t see much. For a moment you hesitate, unsure if you should turn back. Then a troll appears from behind the trees.

Surprisingly, the troll extends a hand, not to harm you but to greet you. Its handshake smells just like the damp, humid forest floor. It is earthy and green, raw and grounding. The troll leads you to its cave where fresh mushroom soup simmers quietly, and lanterns made from fallen leaves glow on the walls. The whole encounter is obviously quite strange, but also unexpectedly enchanting. It feels like you’re meant to be here, in this little story hidden under the forest canopy.

And so I wear Prism Head when I want to feel slightly otherworldly. It brings me back to the landscapes I grew up in, the Swedish forests that shaped my sense of imagination. There is comfort in the strangeness, and a familiarity in its wildness.

Prism Head (and Sarah Baker’s fragrances in general) remind me that some of the most interesting things in life reveal themselves only when you are willing to take risks and walk deeper into the woods.”
