Pumpkin, Perfume, and Poltergeist

Do you believe in ghosts? On the day that we shot this image, studio assistant Lucas asked me that question.

On a recent ghost story session over a campfire, a man told me that his father was a medium and he exorcised people who were possessed by dark demons. The subjects of his exorcism had addiction problems, and this was one of his therapeutic methods. He believed that addicts were possessed by demon spirits. "Kind of like Ghost Busters?" A mutual friend asked, and I was grateful for the comic relief. It doesn’t help that I’m a total scaredy cat—I’ve never watched The Poltergeist or The Exorcist—and I don’t plan on doing that anytime soon either. After watching The Blair Witch Project in 1999, I think I hit my quota for horror films.

It didn’t help that during our shoot there were demon spirits in the room who kept breaking our photographic equipment! Despite being a bit spooked we still managed to get this image. With the help of Lucas and some nice pumpkins, apples and flowers from the shops on the local Broadway Market.

I love autumn. When the temperature changes, perfume smells distinctively different. I’ve especially noticed that during autumn I love the smell of my fragrance Tartan because it makes me feel cozy when there’s a chill in the air. It’s exciting to watch leaves fall off trees and watch the sky get darker. Another reason I love autumn is because it gives me a reason to throw a pumpkin carving dinner party… which I recently did. Luckily the demon spirits decided to leave us alone that evening.
